The Head of Textile and Yarn Technology takes a leadership role in research and development to define strategies for new product innovation. Having defined medium to long-term pipelines and processes, you will be responsible for setting up and leading cross-functional teams for project execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and articulate a future-focused vision for the company and identify opportunities to maximize growth and revenue
- Conduct research into the structures and properties of polymers, yarn, textiles, and other textile related processes/finishes relevant to the textile industry that could be used to develop new products or enhance existing ones
- Generate new ideas and recognize innovative ideas generated by others.
- Evaluate the current offerings and processes to align and streamline to maximize efficiency
- Nurture existing strategic partnerships and seek to establish new partnerships related to research and development and product delivery
- Foster collaboration, partnerships, and the sharing of information and expertise between departments to produce well-integrated programs, products, and services across the organisation
- Develop new capabilities and implement with partners, new business models, and new processes to serve those opportunities
- Identify the latest fabric trends, developments, and innovations including non-woven materials
- Determine ways to strengthen or combine materials or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in a variety of products and applications
- Plan laboratory experiments to confirm the feasibility of processes and techniques used in the production of materials having special characteristics
- Research methods of processing, forming, and development of sustainable materials to replace hazardous ones that are harmful to the planet
- Confer with customers to determine how materials can be tailored to suit their needs
- Represent the company at various trade shows to market the company’s offerings and to gather market intelligence
- Conduct strategic analysis and develop clear and quantifiable business plans, goals and objectives for each program and monitoring those
- Conduct market and competitor assessments
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Textile Engineering or material engineering
- Substantial experience working in the textile industry with an understanding of fiber to garment manufacturing for both knits and wovens
- Up to date with latest fabric industry developments

- An eye for colour, texture, and pattern
