Textile Innovation Engineer – great design can change lives!

Bridgeworks Consulting is partnering with a global organisation that provides sell-designed medical devices to appoint a Sydney-based Textile Innovation Engineer within its Textile Centre of Excellence.

Core Responsibilities

You will work alongside a small global team to develop and engineer soft components that integrate seamlessly into advanced hardware systems and meet the highest standards of comfort, quality, and performance.

Product Design & Innovation

  • Engineer and prototype innovative textile-integrated components.

  • Translate user and design requirements into technically robust softgoods constructions.

  • Evaluate materials, joining technologies and textile architectures.

  • Lead feasibility studies and structured testing of new concepts.

  • Contribute to intellectual property development where relevant.

Integration & Technical Development

  • Apply bonding, lamination, welding and seam technologies in product development.

  • Partner with industrial design and mechanical engineering teams.

  • Ensure textile systems meet comfort, durability and manufacturability criteria.

Supplier Engagement

  • Collaborate with global suppliers to explore new materials and process capabilities.

  • Assess the scalability of innovative constructions.

  • Leverage or build a network of specialist textile and softgoods suppliers.

Critical Requirements

  • Degree in Textile Engineering, Industrial Design, Apparel Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in innovation-led softgoods or textile product development (e.g. performance footwear, wearables, advanced consumer products or medical devices).
  • Strong knowledge of textile manufacturing and softgoods integration methods (knitting, braiding, coating, finishing, bonding, ultrasonic/RF welding, lamination, seam taping, thermoforming, shaping, overmoulding with plastics).

  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Full right to work in Australia is mandatory.

Highly Regarded

  • CAD proficiency (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks or similar).
  • Established relationships with global suppliers, integrators and manufacturing partners.

  • Ability to sketch and communicate concepts in 2D/3D
